Lumajang Regency at a glance

Lumajang is one of the regencies located on the south coast of the province of East Java. Lumajang is also called “Banana town”. The regency of Lumajang is about 190 km from Surabaya, the capital of East Java. Lumajang is located at 112° 53’ - 113° 23’ east longitude and 7° 54’ - 7° 23’ south longitude. In the year 2000 the population was 965, 299 in an area of 179,090 km2. Lumajang is divided into 18 sub-districts and 200 smaller areas. The regency of Lumajang includes the western area of the regency of Malang, the eastside of Jember, and the north of the regency of Probolinggo.



The Triangle of Lakes

The are three popular lakes which situated on triangle position

  • Ranu Klakah (Klakah Lake)
  • Ranu Bedali (Bedali Lake)
  • Ranu Pakis (Pakis Lake)

These lakes form an attractive resort surrounded by beautiful mountainous scenery and the beauty of Mount Lamongan. They are located in northern Lumajang and are easily reached by public or private transportation.

This area has beautiful scenery. It is located in Panupane village in the sub-district of Senduro, about 50 km west of Lumajang on the slope of Bromo and Semeru mountains. There are a wide variety of home stay options available.


RANU PANE (PANE LAKE)

At 3,676 meters high, Mt. Semeru is Java’s highest mountain. It sends up a column of thick smoke at a regular interval of five minutes. An active volcano, it is known for its breathtaking views of the sunrise, the sunset, and the volcano’s crater. There are special ceremonies held at the top of Mt. Semeru on Independence Day and on Heroes Day.

RANU GUMBOLO (GUMBOLO LAKE)


At this location a religious ceremony is performed by Hindus, who are primarily Balinese. They perform the MEMENDAK THIRTHA ceremony and the MJEJAUMAN ceremony on Mount Semeru. The annual ceremonies are conducted in July. Balinese traditional dances are performed as part of these ceremonies. The temple is located the sub-district of Sendoro, ± 25 km west of Lumajang.

Tetes Cave is one of Lumajang’s natural wonders. Fifty-five kilometers to the south of Lumajang, Tetes cave is easily reached by motorcycle or car. The most beautiful cave in Lumajang contains impressive colorful formations of stalagmite and stalactite. There is a challenging 1 km walk to reach the cave. Upon entering cave, visitors will see a river flowing calmly. It is a very amazing cave.

Sawur Mountain is to a place to see volcanoes. It is located in Sumur Mujur village, in the Candipuro sub-district about 27 km from the city. Beside being a perfect location to rest, it is also a lovely place to visit for the beautiful scenery and the fresh air. The main places of interest are the Seismograph and Regional Centre Building as well as a telescope.


One more interesting natural tourist opportunity is the Bamboo Forest Tour. The scenery is beautiful, with fresh air and water. Located in the Candipuro sub-district, about 45 km to south of Lumajang, it is about 8 hektares wide. There are monkeys around that the visitors can observe. In 2002, the Bamboo Forest was awarded a “Kalpataru” (a gift from the state) as the best Live Environment Criteria.



Semeru Lake


Another naturally scenic pool in Lumajang is Semeru Lake. It is Located in Nguter village, in the sub-district of Pasirian about 21 km from Lumajang. It has good water and is hygienic. Usually people visit on Sundays and on holidays, especially on Idul Fitri and Lebaran Ketupat. The facilities available include changing rooms, a garden, and a parking are



Watu Godeg beach
Watu Godeg beach is near Watu Godeg coast. It is located at Tempursari, just about 33 km from Lumajang. It offers incredible scenery and amazing powerful waves.

Just to the south of Lumajang is a quiet interesting beach. Visitors can take public transportation for about 31 km. Along the beach, there are many colorful stones. There is also a natural fishing swamp to enjoy. This location offers the fishing swamp, lovely scenery and waves, and beautiful rocks.






This shore lies on south coast of Java with its huge waves as its main feature. It is located in Selok Awar-Awar village in the Pasirian sub-district ± 18 km south of Lumajang. Teak forests line the roadside near the beach, which contribute to the beauty of this tourist destination. The resort is also used as a location for the Hindu ritual ceremony called MELASTI (Larung Sesaji).


WotGalih is a very relaxing place with beautiful scenery. On Idul Fitri, WotGalih is noted for being a place for family fun. Located in Wotgalih village, about 28 km from Lumajang, it offers a shrimp dam.


Bambang Beach

Bambang beach is a seaside resort on the shore of the Indonesian ocean located in Bago Village ±23km from Lumajang. This is a beach with huge waves. Bambang beach is often visited by a large number of tourists on the days of Lebaran Ketupat.


Dampar Beach
Dampar Beach is located in Bades Village, in the Pasirian sub-district about 28 Km from Lumajang. It is a popular tourist beach with beautiful white sand.
